day by day

Arrive in Kathmandu International Airport, you will be met and chauffeured to your hotel.

Fly to Phaplu. Jeep to Junbesi Embark on your trekking adventure shortly after breakfast with a short flight to Phaplu followed by an hour’s jeep ride to Junbesi. Check into your lodge and if you feel up to it, join your guide and visit a local monastery.

Thuptencholing Monastery excursion.

After breakfast, begin a steady ascent to Thuptencholing Monastery. One of the most significant monasteries of the region. Established by Thrulsik Rimpoche after his escape from Tibet in the 1950’s. For many years to served refugees from Tibet before they moved on to other monasteries in Nepal and India. Thrulsik Rimpoche is a highly regarded monk and is a teacher of the Dalai Lama.

At the monastery complex, we our travelers can choose to attend a prayer ceremony and have lunch with the monks and nuns before returning to Junbesi.

We begin the day with a steep ascent and then a short descent to the river before ascending steep switchbacks for a short distance that soon becomes a gentle ascent.

There’s a chance of seeing some wildlife and rare birds along the river valley. Finally ascend to a small pass through a canopy of Himalayan oak and Rhododendron forests before descending into Loding – a small Sherpa Village in the best of the Himalayas.

Trek to Jase Bhanjyang

Today, we will ascend a little over 3,000 feet. We begin our trek on a recently built jeep track to Upper Loding and enter a thick rhododendron/pine forest. The trail becomes a steep switch back all the way to Jase Bhanjyang which is a saddle between two hill tops. This was originally a pasture for yak-herders until trekkers began frequenting this area. Now, two lodges have been built here. Our camp site is further away from the lodges.

Prepare to ascend a little over 3,000 ft today. Enter a rich Rhododendron and Pine forest before ascending on steep switch-back all the way to Jase Bhanjyang. A village saddled between two hill-tops.

Begin the final, steep ascend all the way to the top of one of the two Pikey peaks. A clear day proves the opportunity to view the Gauri Shanker, Rolwaling, Numbur, Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga peaks.

Those in good shape can summit both peaks and may also descend to Pikey base camp on the other side before returning to our camp site.

Descend to Junbesi

Descend via a large yak pasture, thick forests switch-back trails before ending up in a clearing and the village of Taktor. At this point you will re-join the classic Jiri to Lukla trail which was used by climbers before the Lukla airport was built.
