Day 1: Enjoy a soft landing in Costa Rica, with a friendly face meeting you upon arrival at Santa Maria International Airport (SJO) for a short transfer to the Cariari (approximately a 15-20 minute drive) before settling into your room.
Cariari is one of San Jose’s upmarket colonies and is best known for its lavish club, offering golfing facilities, an Olympic size pool, and gym facilities accessible to those staying at the Cariari Bed and Breakfast. A great multi-cuisine selection of restaurants is just a 5-minutes walk down the road. Welcome to Costa Rica!
Day 2: Wake up to the sounds of Costa Rican bird song and prepare for a delicious breakfast to start your journey.
Next drive with your Travel Tribe host and Douglas Morales on a road trip (approx 4 hrs) to the last town in Costa Rica along the Caribbean Sea . The drive takes you through sweet little Caribbean fishing villages along the way. Midway, stretch your legs and enjoy an authentic Costa Rican lunch in a charming local restaurant. Next, we will literally drive to the end of the road to the walking entrance of Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. Here you will be greeted by Jairo, your local Tarponville host. Stretch your legs and enjoy the sea breeze during your short hike to your exclusive accommodations, ideally located within the wildlife refuge. Treat your eyes to a lush ecosystem and keep an eye out for tailing Triggerfish as you are escorted to your lodge. If time permits wet your line on the banks of the lodge for Triggerfish or join Douglas for a evening birdwatching walk. Learn about the fishery and the latest catches from your head fishing guide Jairo, and the local ecosystem from Douglas. Finally, enjoy a complimentary happy hour of rum and beer while you receive a briefing from Douglas on how to prepare for the next day. End your day celebrating your adventure with loved ones around a delicious dinner in your exclusive accommodations along the banks of the Caribbean.
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch on route to Manzanillo, and dinner will be served in your lodge located within the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife and Marine Refuge.
Day 3&4: All will start the day early to the shrieks of howler monkeys and the smell of Costa Rican coffee and a nourishing breakfast.
For Anglers: Spend the day chasing record size Tarpon while fly fishing with your local guides. Start shortly after an early breakfast at about 7 am followed by a short hike to the edge of the park to board your boat. After being introduced to your guide (two anglers to a guide and boat) you will be steered into the direction of the best, most un pressured Tarpon fishing spots, likely steering you toward the Panama border.
Generally speaking, anglers after return to the lodge by noon and sett off again by 3pm. Some of the fish caught can take well over an hour to land. Hence it’s important to keep well hydrated and to be prepared to return to the lodge in the dark should a fish decided to take your fly toward the later part of the evening.
Tackle for Tarpon fly fishing: 12 – 14 wt rods are in order here and must be reels loaded with 300-400 yards of 50 lb backing, intermediate Tarpon fly lines and 80-100 lb test leader, straight!

Activities for Outdoor Adventure Companions:
Wake up for an optional self-guided Transformative Travel Sunrise Meditation (provided to all guests prior your journey) from the park’s closest view point. Post breakfast head to the entrance of the park with your host Douglas, and drive over to the stunning beaches of Punta Uva. Begin with a kayak tour in Punta Uva beach. Next, take a slow walk to the observatory, where your local guide will show you a great variety of animals and plants. We will finish the tour with snorkeling in a spectacular beach where you can appreciate more than 35 coral species, 120 different fish, and if you are lucky you will find the nodriza shark. Return by 3 pm and relax before the evenings happy hour begins!
Meals Included: Breakfast Lunch and Dinner are prepared, packed or served from the lodge within the national park. As always evening happy hour at Tarponville include beer and local rum.
Day 5: Have an early breakfast and the entire group will head out for the day to explore the Parque Nacional Cahuita for some of Costa Rica’s best snorkeling, along pristine protected beaches, and witness an incredible display of marine and wildlife with our local and seasoned boatman and guide. Begin by snorkeling among the coral reefs in clear Caribbean waters within the National Park. It is not uncommon to spot Turtles, Stingrays, Nurse Sharks, and a host of other marine life. Post snorkeling enjoy a little picnic on a sandy beach before taking a beautiful shaded nature trail to spot some local wildlife. Post hike, is a good time to then visit the local hotspot of Puerto Viejo for some of the area’s best restaurants and shops.

Day 6: Spend the full day Tarpon fly fishing. Continue your pursuit for the fish of your dreams.
Join your host Douglas and a local guide to dive deep into Costa Rican culture! Spend the day visiting an indigenous community of Costa Rica, the Bri Bri. This full day adventure includes a lunch with the local tribe. Expect to deepen your knowledge of Costa Rica’s south Caribbean by connecting directly with the people and learning about their regalia, languages, traditions, and traditional methods of cultivation.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
Day 7: Anglers have a choice of going out fly fishing for Tarpon or exploring sight fly fishing along the reefs in the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife and Marine Refuge.
Adventure Companions: Post breakfast the group heads off for an incredible birdwatching adventure. Costa Rica has more than 900 species of birds (10% of the total population of the world) which makes this little country a paradise for bird lovers. During the observation you walk through the mountains, beaches and rivers in search of exotics birds. A wonderful way to connect to the incredible ecosystem of this location once more before departing back to San Jose the next day. Return to the lodge for lunch and have a relaxed afternoon to enjoy Manzanillo beach and shops.
Our final evenings HAPPY HOUR includes a live Ceviche making class with your generous hosts and a toast to your adventure, the experiences you’ve had, and the people you’ve met along the way.

Day 8: Enjoy a leisurely morning sight fly fishing or hiking in the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife and Marine Refuge. Say goodbye to your generous host Jairo before embarking on your adventure to San Jose. Stop over enroute to see local sights and have lunch in a local restaurant before arriving back to Cariari.

Day 9: *If needed for your flight home, a Covid-test can be scheduled for this morning.
Wake up to the sounds of Costa Rican bird calls and enjoy a nourishing breakfast before being chauffeured to the airport to board your flight back home. Please be sure to have any required Covid paperwork in hand before departure. Your airline ticket counter will ask for it.
